mINOR YOURS, Solo For Timpani

“Much is packed into this short, 49 measure solo, and intermediate-level timpanists will find the dynamic
contrast and concluding triplet rhythms challenging. The only unusual rhythmic feature is the occasional use of duplet eighth-note patterns. If careful attention is given to performing the accents and dynamics, this piece will be an excellent supplement for any traditional timpani method.”

Street Smarts, Solo For Snare Drum

"Street Smarts uses several rudiments, including the flam, flam tap, flam accent, single paradiddle, drag, and
five and seven stroke rolls. The solo would sound fine performed in either rudimental or orchestral style, and perhaps students should perform it both ways. There are a wide variety of well notated dynamics. Some of the stickings are a little unusual, and younger students who have just learned the basic rudiments will enjoy these slight innovations. This solo would make an excellent supplement for an experienced beginner who needs a challenge.”

Stand And Deliver, Multiple Percussion Solo For Snare Drum And Bass Drum

“Stand and Deliver is a rudimental solo for snare drum and a bass drum with a foot pedal. Performance suggestions state that the piece is to be performed standing. Techniques include rolls (both open and press), flam and drag combinations and paradiddles. The solo is challenging because of tempo and meter changes and the overall speed. The use of the bass drum creates melodic interest between the two instruments. This is an excellent solo.”

My Better Half, Duet For Marimba And Timpani

“In this duo for marimba and four timpani, each performer also plays suspended cymbal and the timpanist
needs a triangle. It opens in 6/8 meter and is written around the tonal center of F. The opening tempo is eighth note equals 138. The B section is in common time, later moving to 3/4 and 2/4. A four octave marimba is suitable for the work and there are no tuning changes required for the timpanist. The publisher includes a part for each performer plus a score.”

The Palapas of Tulum, For Percussion Ensemble

“This percussion ensemble piece has a catchy melody that at times sounds like a pop song and at other times sounds like a Latin folk song. The Palapas of Tulum is a lively work that the middle school or high school ensemble would probably enjoy playing”
